Bluesuits original design kick pleat skirt from Fall 2009 and Dior's dress Fall 2010

This was the case with yours truly when I was flipping through the pages of Vogue issue of May 2010 while waiting to get a hair cut yesterday. I was shocked to see a near exact copy of Bluesuits original design of Fall 2009 kick-pleat skirt in the upcoming Christian Dior’s Fall 2010 collection.

Similarities were striking while differences were minor and negligible. Design details make Bluesuits kick pleat skirt unique:
1. Triple pleats instead of the usual pleats
2. Pleats on all 6 seams so 6 pleats instead of 4. ( in fact I took lots of heat from my pattern maker and factory as they saw it unnecessary to have the two extra pleats on the side seams). I meant for the skirt to have movement on the bottom against the very fitted hips.
3. The black and white fabric that gives the skirt it’s classic look and versatility.

Dior’s godet skirt has the same number of triple pleats but is made into a dress ( that really looks like a skirt and blouse) and the placement of the pleats is slightly different.

At Bluesuits, we do not follow fashion trends but instead we are inspired by our customers. This skirt was designed for women who can incorporate work appropriate pieces that go beyond the basic pencil skirt and a jacket.

Should I be flattered that Bluesuits kick pleat skirt has inspired or is really really similar to Dior’s? Somewhat!!

While it is a known fact that all designers find inspiration everywhere, including each other’s works this incident along with many more instances made me think about fashion piracy and the fact that While counterfeit with the label is illegal, there are no laws in the US to protect original designs by fashion designers.

I will end with a quote form Arie Kopelman Vice Chairman and past president of Chanel Inc. who says: ” We often say that when you copy a design it’s essentially counterfeit without the label”.

Le Mystere New Dream Tisha

If you have been wearing Le Mystere Dream Tisha and are looking to order new bras you will find that the fit has changed. Subtle changes have been made to the Dream Tisha pattern to make the fit more consistent with Dream Tisha Lace style 965.
If you look closely at Dream Tisha Lace you will see that it has the exact same shape as Dream Tisha with the addition of the scalloped lace trim. However, these two styles never had the same fit. Dream Tisha 9955 had a smaller fit and we always suggested that when you ordered Dream Tisha you’d go up a size in the band as the band was about 2.5 inches shorter.
In addition the follwing changes have been made to Dream Tisha:

• The cup has been re-molded to make Dream Tisha more forward fitting and less “East/West”.

• The new Dream Tisha has three different strap widths, with the strap width more closely correlated to size of bra. For example, the 32G has a narrower strap than the 40G, which will better fit the smaller frame of a 32G woman
• Updated microfiber fabric is slightly softer to the touch
• A different stitch has been used to attach the binding to the band under the arm. The new stitch has more stretch and will allow for more ease in fitting and smoothness under the arm and on the back
• The new Dream Tisha Slightly softer foam in contouring
• Heat sealed label instead of stitched in fabric label.
However, some women are desperately looking for the old Dream Tisha fit. Le Mystere realizes the demand for the old fit and will be bringing the old Dream Tisha back to market in May 2010. So don’t despair, if you have never worn Dream Tisha before, we suggest that you try the new style as the new fit has lots of great features, if you loved your Dream Tisha and are unwilling to take a chance on the new one, you can get more of the old style in just 6 weeks. The old Dream Tisha will have a new style number CL9955. Do you wear Le Mystere bras, would you try the new Dream Tisha 9955 or are you going to wait for the old style and buy it in May. In my position as the designer of Bluesuits Collection a line of women’s professional attire, I also have the privilege of meeting and communicating with the most accomplished professional women around the world, from young professionals who have just graduated and are embarking on a new path in their career or women who are rising the corporate ladder to women in career transition as well as CEOs and CFOs.

• Look like a winner and dress for the job you want.
• Invest in high quality suits. We prefer Tropcial wool stretch, wool crepes or tweeds.
• Wear age appropriate styles and fits.
• Wear clothes that fit you properly
• Choose classic and sophisticated styles and leave the trendy puffed sleeves and filly tops or accentuated shoulders for non-work environments.
• Avoid showing cleavage, wearing pants that are too low and show your undies when you bend
• Dress according to the culture of the firm.

David Garrett Plays Flight of the Bumble Bee on The Oprah Show

Virtuoso violinist David Garrett, dubbed “ The fastest Violin player on the planet” by Oprah, played “The Flight of the Bumble Bee “ on Oprah yesterday to an astounded Host and an estimated 42 million viewers including his fans cheering for him and hanging on to every second of his brief appearance.
David Garrett plays “ The Flight of the Bumblebee” in 66 seconds or 13 notes per second, which will be documented in the 2010 Guinness Book of World Records.

Mr. Garrett who keeps a very demanding International concert schedule, had to reschedule a concert in Dallas to appear on Oprah. Many fans were hoping for more exposure on Oprah but from Mr. Garrett’s fast growing fan page on Face Book since the show it seems that even a one minute exposure to Mr. Garrett leaves people smitten.

David Garrett is far more than the “ Fastest Fingers on Earth”

Virtuoso violinist and cross over musician David Garrett will be showcased on Oprah Winfrey’s show “ That‘s incredible” on February 22nd, 2010 ( today) when an estimated 42 million viewers will hear him. David Garrett plays “ The flight of the Bumblebee” in 66 seconds or 13 notes per second, which will be documented in the 2010 Guinness Book of World Records.

While millions of his fans, including myself, are thrilled and cannot wait to celebrate this appearance, we are hoping that David Garrett will be recognized for far more than breaking world records. For that we have the Olympics. I would guess that Mr. Garrett’s playing for the record braking title was more for fun than scoring a title. Oprah, the most influential TV personality is a huge supporter of musicians and her great taste and genuine endorsement have built many empires.
There is probably no better introduction to David Garrett than his own words in the following video recorded around the time his album Free was released.

Celebrity Status
Mr. Garrett, already a huge celebrity in Europe and Far East and I dare say National pride for Germany, started his US concerts by appearing on a series of PBS programs on national TV and it took no time for viewers to become mesmerized by David Garrett’s talent, electrifying energy and you guessed it, gorgeous looks. His Face Book Fan page grew from 2000 to over 30,000 in just a few months.
Unconventional yet a purist
One of the most amazing facts about Mr. Garrett is that in an unconventional way, he has been able to bring classical music to the younger generation and rock and pop music to the hard core classical audiences. Not only has he exposed his classical audience to a different realm but he has also exposed his Stradivarius violin to a different musical direction. Against all odds Mr. Garrett planned out his career on his own terms.
He concertizes with both classical repertoire as well as his own renditions of music by ACDC, Michael Jackson, Queen among others. David also writes his own tracks, Chelsea girl among them is a huge hit with his fans. While no classical musician would dare appear on stage in anything other than a tuxedo, David Garrett will walk out in a black jacket over jeans and sneakers, an instant ice breaker for those adverse to the stuffy classical music scenes. But don’t be fooled by his casual appearance, Mr. Garrett has a brilliant mind, extra ordinary facility and breathtaking interpretation of all music. His performances resonate with people of all ages, from all walks of life. Having watched numerous videos and TV appearances my observation is that David Garrett is in his element when he is on stage performing. He charms his audience with his charismatic and playful personality, he brings joy and happiness to them with his dazzling performances and touches their heart and soul with his intense emotions. Mr. Garrett puts all that he has got on the plate.

David Garrett recently was the recipient of the Golden Camera Award 2010 in the “Best International Music Artist” category and his DVD “ In Concert & In Private” is nominated for the Echo Pop 2010. His classical music awards include Echo Classic 2009, and Classical Brit Awards, 2008 winners board, Radio Regenbogen award 2008.

David Garrett has not remained unnoticed by the Icons of the Fashion World. He has walked the Cat Walk and appeared in Vogue for Armani. David has also been the face for the German S.Oliver brand, was the global brand ambassador for Banana Republic in 2009, and has additional endorsements overseas with brands including Audi and Montblanc.

In his mission to help the youth and children, David Garrett has mentored children and played fundraiser concerts for numerous non-profits. Part II- best pant style for apple shaped women

Are you an Apple Shape? A Classic apple Shape woman has a round middle, full chest, slim arms and legs, flat buttock and slim hips. Generally the waist measurement is bigger than the chest or hips.

The challenge is to find styles and fabrication that can balance your body and make you look proportionate. I generally see apple shaped women in tent dresses, shapeless tops and pants that are either too baggy or give them a muffin top, where the belly spills over the waist band of the pants. Bluesuits Collection was developed with various styles to fit the unique body shapes of women just like you. Here are some tips to help you choose styles to build your own professioanl personal wardrobe.

Style Tips:

1. Wear an under-wired supportive bra to lift the chest away from the waist.
   Since most apple shaped women are also well endowed wearing a supportive bra can make the torso look longer and slimmer thus taking attention away from the waist. Try it you will look up to 10 pounds slimmer. We recommend Le Mystere Dream Tisha and Dream Tisha Lace or Carina bra.
   

   Bluesuits Flat Front Straight Leg Pants

2. Look for Flat front pants with clean invisible Zipper in the front or on the side.
   Regardless of your body type pants should always fit you well on the hips. Many apple shaped women wear pants that are too baggy, since these women also tend to have a flat behind. Bluesuits flat front pants are a great fitting pair and one that I have recommended to many of my clients.
3. Straight leg or wide leg pants that are not too much wider than your thighs would be a great choice since the wide bottom will balance the round large belly.
   Many apple shapes also have slim legs and find the very wide legs overwhelming specially if they are under 5’.4”.

4. No waist pants and fold over waist pants will fit an apple shape best.
   Try no waist or fold over waist pants with a mid-rise that fit right below your belly button. Bluesuits Matt Jersey Fold over pants feature an adjustable fold-over waist which can be folded to where it is most comfortable  or even left all the way up for added support. Our clients have purchased 4 or 5 pairs at one time. That’s how popular these are.
5. We also recommed Stretch material for most everything including pants. Bluesuits tropical wool stretch pant collection or matt jersey fold over pants are good examples.
6. Pants with back welt pockets. Welt pockets strategically placed will give your buttock a lift and make them look curvier.

7. Boot leg pants can be a great choice.
   The boot leg pants are specially recommended for short apple shapes. Again if you are a classic apple shape with slim legs you might prefer the boot leg to the straight leg.
8. We also recommend empire waist v-neck tops that fit in the chest. The empire waist hides the belly.  Avoid wearing maternity style tops and dresses. here is an example of a great dress for apple shaped women

Part I- best pant style for pear shaped women

Through out the years, I have seen and helped hundreds of women in despair trying to find the right style for their unique body shape. They often complain about their imperfect shape, excess weight or height. The desperation heightens when it comes to buying a pair of perfect fitting pants and the task becomes daunting when shopping in stores. With so many styles, fabrications and fits how do you decide what style is the best for your shape?

The top two most challenged shapes are pear shapes and apple shapes. In this post I will address the best style, fabrication and fit for pear shaped women and will write about apple shapes, hourglass shapes and the rest later.

Are you pear- shaped? If your hip measurement is 2” or more larger than your chest measurement you are pear shaped. You wear a larger size on the bottom than on top. When you try pants and skirts that fit in the waist or slightly below the waist, you find that if the hips fit, the waist is too large and if the waist fits the hip is too tight.

Contrary to general belief models do not all have perfect proportions! In fact the models you see in these pictures are all pear shaped, our  model wears a size 6 on top and a size 10 on the bottom, yet the pants fit her perfectly and she looks terrific.

Style tips:
• You want to look for pants that balance the waist-hip proportion. As pear shaped women have slim waist and wider hips, it is important to wear styles that make the hip look smaller. Boot leg pants and straight leg pants both disguise the wide hips.

Boot leg pants are pants that have slim legs but wide bottoms and straight leg pants hang straight from the hip. Narrow legged pants will emphasize the hips so please don’t wear them if you don’t want to exaggerate the hips.
• Avoid side pockets with deep pocket bags. I am hoping that designers don’t make those pants any longer. Instead if you like pockets find pants with horizontal pockets and shallow pocket bags as seen here.
• Look for pants with contoured waist with or without a waist band, contoured waist bands are the key to no-gap waists for pants and skirts.
• The fabrication is also very important; we love tropical wool stretch or even microfiber stretch.
• Fully lined pants are preferred but at Bluesuits we have a special lining for our pants and skirts that are light and have a smart stretch, that is no lycra or spandex but the fabric moves with the body, is not bulky and extremely durable. Our pant lining is one of our best kept secrets but one that our customers are addicted to.
• Avoid wearing pants that are too loose in the derriere or hips. You want the hips to fit.
So love your shape and embrace it with flattering styles.
